The 13 AEG was re-activated by Thirteenth AF as the air component of Joint Task Force-Support Forces Antarctica (JTF-SFA). The 13 AEG includes the 304th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron and the 139th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron who fly the C-17 and LC-130 aircraft supporting the operation, respectively. The 13 AEG commander is dual hatted as the deputy commander, JTF-SFA.[1][2] The 13th Bombardment Group's last assignment was with the Army Air Forces Antisubmarine Command, based in Westover Field, Massachusetts. It was inactivated on 30 November 1942

Stations

Operational history

Organized in early 1941 as a First Air Force bombardment group equipped with B-18 Bolos. After the United States entered World War II the group was ordered to search for German U-Boats and to fly aerial coverage of friendly convoys off the east coast. Reassigned to Army Air Forces Antisubmarine Command in October 1942 and inactivated shortly afterwards, it's component squadrons being redesignated Antisubmarine Squadrons and reassigned to the 25th Antisubmarine Wing.
